Day 1 – Sunday: ROMA-GROSSETO-PISA-LA SPEZIA
6.30am pickup from your hotel in Rome. Meet your multilingual tour leader and start a delightful trip along the Tyrrhenian Coast. Here you will cross the Etruscan lands until you reach GROSSETO, also known as MAREMMA. This is one of the new areas of excellence in Italy’s viticulture. Meandering through the Tuscan Country side you will reach a beautiful local winery near the regional park and close to wonderful beaches. See up close the winemaking process, from the vineyards to the cellar and the aging of wine. At the end of the visit you can taste some of the most representative wines of this territory. Proceed along the coast until we reach PISA where you will enjoy some free time. Our expert tour leader will take you for a pleasant walk into the enchanting historical center, Piazza dei Miracoli, with its famous Leaning Tower (exterior visit), The Baptistery (exterior visit) and other beautiful monuments. Day 2 – Monday: LA SPEZIA-PORTOVENERE-GOLFO DEI POETI -CINQUE TERRE- LUCCA-MONTAPERTI
After breakfast, depart by boat for an unforgettable day dedicated to discovering of one of the most amazing and enchanting landscapes in the World. The “CINQUE TERRE” is an area suspended between sea and land, hanging from sheer cliffs surrounded by hills and vineyards. You will enter a little piece of heaven. By touring the coast line by boat, you will have the chance to admire this amazing landscape from the ocean. In the event of rough seas, the visit will be done partly by coach and partly by train. During the tour, the boat will reach Porto Venere and at the most important villages where you can stop and visit them. You can take pictures in PORTO VENERE, VERNAZZA and MONTEROSSO, walking the narrow streets whilst immersing yourself in what looks like a colorful postcard! You will reach La Spezia by train and from there you will take a private motor coach to reach the Tuscany region with a stop en route in LUCCA. Walk on the cobblestone streets, explore squares and old Renaissance walls; and see the birthplace of local composer Giacomo Puccini. Admire the medieval buildings along Via Fillungo, peek inside San Frediano church and visit landmarks like the Cathedral of San Martino, Piazza Anfiteatro and Torre delle Ore and finally do not forget to taste Buccellato cake. Proceed to Montaperti. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Meals: B D
Day 3 – Tuesday: MONTAPERTI- RADDA IN CHIANTI -SAN GIMIGNANO-SIENA -CASTELNUOVO BERARDENGA- MONTAPERTI
After breakfast at the hotel, discover Chianti Classico GALLO NERO region and admire one of the most emblematic villages: RADDA IN CHIANTI. Visit the small town on your own, and then proceed by private motor coach to SAN GIMIGNANO. This is a tiny town that has remained intact throughout the centuries. It’s situated on a hilltop and is famous for its numerous towers, frescoes and other art treasures. After San Gimignano you will make a stop at a farmhouse to enjoy an excellent wine tasting with traditional snacks. Now it’s time to move to SIENA, where you will visit the old city center. You will be walking along the medieval streets admiring splendid palaces. The sightseeing tour will end in the Piazza del Campo. This is one of the most beautiful squares in the world and the site of the famous 600 years old horse-race, called “Il Palio”. Before to leaving to head back to the hotel we will stop in CASTELNUOVO BERARDENGA for a special aperitif in a cellar. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Meals: B D
Day 4 – Wednesday: MONTAPERTI-MONTEPULCIANO-PIENZA- ROMA
After breakfast, check out and depart to VAL D’ORCIA to complete the wine tour of Tuscany. We will reach the hilltop town of MONTEPULCIANO, an ancient village rich of medieval and Renaissance buildings, famous for producing one of the oldest wines of Italy, the “Nobile di Montepulciano”. You will stop for a visit to a wine cellar, taste some local wines and products like ham, cheese, and salami. Proceed to PIENZA, the Renaissance town built under Pope Pius II, well-known for its pecorino cheese. At the end of the visit proceed to Rome. Check in and overnight at the hotel in Rome Meals: B
Day 5 Thursday – ROME-NAPLES-POMPEII-SORRENTO
Pick up at the hotel will be between 6.30am to 7.00am. Please remember to order your breakfast box at your hotel the day before departure. Upon arrival in Naples our local guide will take us for a walking tour of the historical center to admire Piazza del Plebiscito, the Royal Palace, Piazza del Municipio, the Gallery of Umberto I, the San Carlo Opera House. Upon leaving the city we continue to Pompeii. Here we will have lunch in a traditional restaurant with Neapolitan specialities (mineral water and 1 soft drink included). We then will visit a coral and cameo factory where we will have the opportunity to admire and purchase items made with a technique dating back to the Greek times. Followed by a visit to the Pompei excavations of this ancient Roman city that was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D. This archaeological journey through the ancient city will give you the opportunity to better understand how Romans lived at that time. Proceed to SORRENTO, the gateway of Amalfi coast with its colorful historical center and pretty waterfront with fishing boats. Check in at the hotel in Sorrento, dinner and overnight. Meals: L D
Day 6 Friday – SORRENTO – CAPRI – SORRENTO
American buffet breakfast at the hotel. Afterwards we depart between 07.30am – 7.45am to the island of CAPRI. You will board the ferry and arrive in MARINA GRANDE. Once on the island you will visit the BLUE GROTTO (weather permitting and stop at the famous Piazzetta. A Minibus will take you up to ANACAPRI. After lunch in Anacapri, you will return to Marina Grande where you will board the ferry for your transfer back to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Meals: B L D
Day 7 Saturday – SORRENTO – POSITANO- AMALFI
American buffet breakfast at the hotel and departure to AMALFI at 9.30am via the breathtaking Amalfi Coast drive. En-route stop in POSITANO. Upon arrival at the picturesque village of Positano, enjoy approximately 1H30 hour of free time to explore the narrow lanes and abundance of souvenir shops. Alternatively, laze on the beach or visit the Church of Santa Maria Assunta (own expense). We then leave Positano and arrive in Amalfi, check in at the Hotel and time at leisure. You can visit the beach and plunge into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Alternatively, you may wish to visit the city center of Amalfi. Overnight at the hotel. Meals: B
Day 8 Sunday – AMALFI
American Buffet breakfast at the hotel then time at leisure to visit the historic center of Amalfi. Its historic center is justly considered an outdoor museum and preserves, almost intact, architectural and urban digs of its rich maritime past. You can also visit the picturesque RAVELLO with the beautiful Villa Ruffolo and magnificent gardens of Villa Cimbrone or you can decide to spend the day on the beach. Have a romantic dinner in one of the pretty restaurants all around the harbor or taste the typical street food. Overnight in Amalfi. Meals: B
Day 9 Monday – AMALFI – POMPEII – ROME
American buffet breakfast at the hotel. Morning at leisure. Meeting point at the hotel at 2.30pm-3.00pm and transfer to Pompeii where you will join the bus to come back to Rome. Arrival in Rome around 9.00pm. End of tour. Meals: B
