Day 1 Monday ROME – ASSISI – MONTEPULCIANO – FLORENCE
Early morning departure for ASSISI, the mystic town of Saint Francis still surrounded by ancient walls. Explore at your own leisure the tiny town, visit the Basilica of Saint Francis with its early Renaissance masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue. Visit Montepulciano, a medieval town famous for its “nobile” wine and for the annual Jazz Festival. Continue to FLORENCE. Dinner and overnight.
Day 2 Tuesday FLORENCE
Buffet breakfast. Guided sightseeing of the cradle of the Renaissance. Visit the beautiful Piazza del Duomo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery of St. John, the Academy of Fine Arts Gallery housing the “David” by Michelangelo, and Santa Croce, the 13th century Franciscan church with the famous Cimabue’s crucifix. Rest of the day at leisure for optional sightseeing or shopping. Dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Wednesday FLORENCE – PADUA – VENICE
Buffet breakfast. Departure for Venice via PADUA, where you will visit the famous Cathedral of St. Anthony, guarded by Donatello’s “Gattamelata”. Continue to VENICE, and upon arrival enjoy a guided sightseeing on foot of this unique city. Exterior view of the Basilica of St. Mark, the Bridge of Sighs and the Prisons. Dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Thursday VENICE
Buffet breakfast. Morning visit to a glass factory (optional shopping) to see the molding of the famous venetian murano glass or optional excursions. Dinner and overnight.
Day 5 Friday VENICE – ROME
Buffet breakfast and depart to Rome. Overnight.
Day 6 Saturday ROME
After breakfast depart from the hotel for a walking excursion. (NO TOUR LEADER DURING THE STAY IN ROME). Visit St. Peter’s Basilica, Navona Square, the Pantheon and Trevi Fountain. In the afternoon explore the rest of the city at your own leisure or take an optional excursion. Overnight stay.
Day 7 Sunday ROME – NAPLES – POMPEII – SORRENTO
Early morning departure from Rome to POMPEII, the famous Roman city destroyed by the volcanic eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 a.D. Lunch in a local restaurant, and afterwards, visit of the excavations. Proceed on to SORRENTO. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 8 Monday SORRENTO
Buffet breakfast and day at leisure. Dinner and overnight.
Day 9 Tuesday SORRENTO – CAPRI – NAPLES
Buffet breakfast. Departure to Capri by steamer. Weather conditions permitting, visit of the Blue Grotto. Return to Marina Grande and then transfer to Anacapri. Lunch in a typical restaurant followed by a visit of Augustus’ Gardens, with a view of the Faraglioni. Return to Naples. Dinner and Overnight at Hotel.
Day 10 Wednesday NAPLES – PAESTUM – REGGIO CALABRIA
Buffet breakfast. We will enjoy a visit to the Archeological area in Paestum. Then continue to Reggio Calabria. Time at leisure for lunch. Arrive and visit the Archaeological Museum where we will admire in particular the famous Bronzi di Riace. In the afternoon, depart to Rende (Calabria region). Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 11 Thursday REGGIO CALABRIA – ETNA TAORMINA- SYRACUSE
Buffet breakfast. Depart to Sicily and, conditions permitting, excursion on Mount Etna the highest active volcano in Europe. We will reach 1800 meters to visit the Silvestri Craters. Continue to Taormina and visit by our own of the Greek Theatre as well as enjoy some free time to shop or go around the elegant streets of the city. Depart to Siracusa. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 12 Friday SYRACUSE – PIAZZA ARMERINA – AGRIGENTO
Buffet breakfast. Visit the archaeological area including the Greek theatre as well as Ortiga, the historical baroque center of the city. Depart to Piazza Armirina to visit the Roman Villa del Casale, famous for its more than 3500 sq meters of mosaics. Continue to Agrigento. Time at leisure for lunch. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 13 Saturday: AGRIGENTO – MONREALE – PALERMO
Buffet breakfast. In the morning visit the Valley of the Temples, know for its well preserved Greek Temples. Continue to Palermo: we will admire the Cathedral as well as the Palatine Chapel in the Royal Palace. Panoramic visit to Palermo and continue to Monreale to visit the Cathedral and the Cloister. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
Day 14 Sunday: PALERMO
After breakfast end of the service.
