Day 1 – Friday – ROME
Arrival on your own at Rome airport, transfer from the airport to the hotel , rest of the day at leisure, overnight.
Day 2 Saturday – ROME
After buffet breakfast pick up at 9 a.m. for a guided tour of the city center to see the most important sites including: Campo de Fiori, Piazza Farnese, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps. Afternoon free for own activities or optional tours can be added to the Vatican Museum, the Catacombs, Capitol and the Colosseum, etc. Overnight in Rome.
Day 3 Sunday – ROME – MONTEPULCIANO – PIENZA- SIENA
After breakfast meet with your guide at the hotel and departure at 7:30 a.m. through the rolling hills of the Tuscany Chianti Region. First we stop at Montepulciano and ancient hilltop village of medieval and renaissance buildings. The town is famous for one of the oldest wines of Italy, called Nobile di Montepulciano. Stop for a visit at a typical wine cellar where you can taste the famous wine along with local products like ham, cheese , salami. We will continue to Pienza, the Renaissance town built by Pope Pius II, well-known for its pecorino cheese. Next we’ll drive to Siena in the heart of Tuscany, one of the most atmospheric cities in all of Italy, famous for its unique medieval town square and the Palio horse races that started in the middle ages. Walking along the medieval streets admiring the splendid late Medieval palaces. The program will conclude at the Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful squares in the world wiht its imposing Gothic Town Hall. Dinner and overnight in Siena.
Day 4 Monday – SIENA – SAN GIMIGNANO – CHIANTI WINE REGION -PISA – LA SPEZIA
After breakfast departure to the tiny town of medieval “skyscrapers”, San Gimignano, a small city still surrounded by wall that has remained intact through the centuries. The town, known from the movie” Tea with Mussolini” is also famous for its architecture of high towers and medieval frescos. Our next stop is Tavernelle Val di Pesa in the Chianti region where we visit a farm house for wine tasting with a light lunch. On to Pisa, free time to climb up to the Leaning Tower or other activities. After the break we will have a guided tour to the Piazza dei Miracoli, with the famous leaning tower (exterior) , the Baptistery and other beautiful monuments. Continue to La Spezia, hub to the Cinque Terre UNESCO World Heritage Park. Dinner and overnight in La Specia.
Day 5 Tuesday – LA SPEZIA – CINQUE TERRE – LA SPEZIA
After breakfast, departure by boat for a cruise around the shores of one of the most celebrated coast lines in the world with five hidden villages suspended between the sea and the sky on cliffs above small bays. The whole area is surrounded by hills and vineyards, which will allow us to immerse into a little piece of Heaven. During our boat cruise we will have the best view to marvel the amazing postcard-perfect landscape. You will see the villages balancing on the sheer cliffs. We will stop at Porto Venere at the Gulp of Poets with its picturesque harbor; Vernazza, one of the most picturesque villages in all of Italy surrounded by terraced olive groves and Monterosso with its reefs and sandy beach. You can get ashore and visit the villages with their steep old streets for excellent views of the sea and surrounding areas. Back to La Spezia on the shore by train, dinner and overnight in La Spezia.
Day 6 – Wednesday – LA SPEZIA – CARRARA – MONTECARLO DI LUCCA – ROME
This morning after breakfast, we will drive to Carrara where we’ll have a panoramic visit to the impressive Marble quarries carved deep into the mountain, where Michelangelo took the raw material to create his superb masterpieces. Continue on to Montecarlo de Lucca, a lovely bucolic area with rolling hills, good quality wine and extra virgin olive oil production. We will visit a local farm where you will taste superb and delicious specialties of Tuscan food from olive oil to cheese, bread, wine and pasta accompanied by different kind of wines. Drive back to Rome, arrival in the evening. Overnight.
Day 7 – Thursday – ROME
Buffet breakfast, end of services. Chek out additional tours from Rome to southern Italy.
