Day 1 – SUNDAY SORRENTO
Arrival in Sorrento on your own. Che4ck into the hotel, welcome drink with your guide and welcome package. Dinner at the hotel, overnight in Sorrento .
Day 2 – MONDAY CAPRI AND ANACAPRI
Today we embark on a boat excursion to the beautiful island of Capri, a popular vacation spot since Roman times for its fantastic vistas. The magical island of sirens has inspired many artists and tourists through centuries and is connected to many legends. We’ll visit Anacapri on top of the island where you will have the possibility to visit at Villa San Michele. In Capri you can walk from the main square to the Gardens of August and admire the view of the famous Faraglioni rocks and the rugged south cost of the island. In the afternoon free time for shopping or exploring the beautiful island on your own. Possibility to visit the Blue Grotto. return to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight in Sorrento.
Day 3 – TUESDAY SORRENTO – AMALFI OR NAPLES
Today is at leisure to pursue you own activities or to take one of the optional tours we offer. There are 2 optional tours you could choose from: Excursion to Amalfi or Naples. Cost of the Amalfi Coast tour is 40 euros, the one to Naples is 45 euros.
The celebrated Amalfi coast is one of the most spectacular coastlines of the world with its narrow winding road, steep rocks and breathtaking views. Our first stop is Positano, a small local village built on a steep hill where you can walk down through the little alleys and many stairs to the charming local beach. We continue to the town of Amalfi, the center of the coast. Once Amalfi used to be an important Maritime republic just like Pisa or Venice until most of its coastline has been washed away by tidal waves. The former important town is now a major tourist hub with its romantic vistas and hidden alleys. In the cathedral are kept the tombs of the saint patron of Amalfi and also of St. Andrew of Scotland. Continuation to the hilltop village of Ravello overlooking Amalfi with the possibility to visit Villa Rufolo, considered once of the most beautiful places on earth.
Naples is the major city of southern Italy and an important port on the Gulf of Naples at the foothills of mount Vesuvius. The mild climate, the rich history and numerous attractions have attracted tourists from all over the world since 18 Century. The heart of Naples is the old town, declared by the UNESCO to World Heritage is like stepping back to past centuries with its narrow streets leading to mysterious churches, catacombs and caves. Local artisans, street sellers, flapping laundry hanging from windows and screaming fish sellers are all typical of the old Neapolitan folk cultures. Naples is dominated by the hill of Vomero with the impressive Castello S. Elmo, from where you can enjoy a magnificent view over the city, the Vesuvius and the sea. You have to try the local delicious pizza, which was originated form Naples. return to Sorrento. Dinner and overnight at hotel.
Day 4 – WEDNESDAY POMPEII – SALERNO – MESSINA
After breakfast we depart from Sorrento to Pompeii, one of the world’s most popular archeological sites and fascination of many. After the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii lay buried and forgotten for centuries under the lava. The excavations, which already begun in 18 th century, still go on today. We will lead you through some of the ancient streets, where you can see baths, forums and villas which were built by wealthy Romans in 80 BC. with some remarkable inner courtyards, colored mosaics and frescos still visible today. Continuation to the port of Salerno. Departure at 2 p.m. to Sicily. Arrival at Messina at 10 p.m. Transfer to hotel in Taormina, cold dinner and overnight. * seats reserved on the ferry.
Day 5 – THURSDAY ETNA – TAORMINA
After breakfast we embark on a morning excursion to Mt. Etna, the highest peak of Sicily and the most active volcano in Europe. The territory surrounding the volcano constitutes the “Park of Etna”, one of the largest protected areas in Italy: You will be astonished about the great variety of vegetation and landscapes that we will meet along the way before arriving at the “ Silvesti Craters” (about 1.900 mt). From here on you will have the option to continue the excursion by jeep. Stop at a local beekeeper to taste quality honey and to see how he is produced. In the afternoon visit the town of Taormina, perched on a rocky plateau on the slopes of the steeply dropping Monte Tauro and eternalized by many artists. Taormina is the most picturesque spot in Sicily famous for its Greek-Roman theatre and fantastic views. Possibility to visit the Greek-Roman theatre, the 2nd largest classical theatre in Sicily. return to the hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 6 – FRIDAY TAORMINA MARE – NOTO – SYRACUSE
Full day excursion. First stop in Noto to discover the beautiful Sicilian baroque city, a major heritage site. Continue on to Syracuse, once the “New York” of the ancient Greek colonies with one of the most interesting archaeological sites of the island. Guided excursion at the Archeological Park, the Roman Amphitheatre, the Greek Theatre, the Ear of Dionysus,, the Cave of the Cordari, Island of Ortigia, the most ancient center of the old Greek city with its stunning cathedral and many legends. Return to the hotel in Taormina Mare. Dinner and overnight.
Day 7 – SATURDAY TAORMINA MARE
Breakfast. End of services. Possibility to add extra days or transfers to Catania or Palermo airports as well as ferry back to Sorrento.
Tour is escorted in Sicily only and during the South Italy Sorrento excursions. There is no escort on the ferry to Sicily
