Depart from Rome to to the hilltop wine villages of charming Tuscany surrounded by rolling hills, cyprus guided wine estates and serene countryside. Continue on the Cinque Terre, the five hidden villages of north Italy’s rugged coastline, a designated Wordl Heritage park. The tour would not be complete without traveling to the splendid Amalfi Coast famouse for sparkling blue skies, lemon trees, oleanders and spledid view over the Mediterranean.
Day 1 – Sunday ROME MONTEPULCIANO, PIENZA and SIENA_
Departure from the meeting point at 8 a.m. or pick up at the hotel at 7:30 .am. on a delightful trip through the rolling hills of Tuscany’s Chianti Region. Our first stop is the hilltop town of MONTEPULCIANO an ancient village dating back to Etruscan times full of medieval and Renaissance buildings. We will visit a local wine cellar where you will have the chance to taste one of the oldest and most famous wines of the region , the Nobile di Montepulciano, along with some local food. Continue on to another Renaissance town, Pienza built by Pope Pius II, then proceed to Siena, one of Italy’s most authentic towns, world famous for its original late-medieval shell-shaped square, the Piazaa del Campo and its town hall as well as many artistic treasures and elegant palaces. Dinner & overnight in Siena.
Day 2 – Monday SIENA SAN GIMIGNANO CHIANTI AREA, PISA, LA SPEZIA
This morning after breakfast we drive to SAN GIMIGNANO, a town of medieval “skyscrapers” feautred in the movie ” Tea with Mussolini”. Admire the authentic Medieval atmosphere of, loggias, frescoes, towers from the Middle ages, enjoy local wines and splendid views over the surrounding countryside. Continue to a typical farm house in Chiantis’ Gallo Nero region, where we will make a stop at the farmhouse LA TANCIA for a wine tasting experience and light lunch of local products, then on to PISA , where we will have free time. Continue with a walking tour of Piazza dei Miracoli, (square of Miracles) with the famous Leaning Tower and the Baptistery (exterior). Drive to LA SPEZIA, the gateway to Cinque Terre National Park. Dinner and overight in La Specia.
Day 3 – Tuesday – PORTOVENERE GOLFO DEI POETS CINQUE TERRE LA SPEZIA.
After breakfast, we’ll take a boat ride to the admire the postcard perfect views of the hidden little villages of Cinque Terre suspended between the sea and the sky on steep rocks. We will disembark at some of the villages where you will have time to discover their charm on land. The tiny hamlets are sheltered by mountains and dotted with vineyards and have been isolated from the outside world through many centuries.
Visit Portovenere, a dedicated World Heritage site with its picturesque harbor, colorful houses leading up on narrow streets to its castle, Vernazza with its narrow lanes and steep stairways, view Corniglia on the top of a high promontory and stop at Monterosso with its reddish color castle and sandy beach. At the end of the day we will return to La Specia by train from Monterosso for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 – Wednesday LA SPEZIA CARRARA MARBLE CAVES MONTECARLO DI LUCCA- ROME
Breakfast morning departure to CARRARA and visit the famous marble quarries where Michelangelo and other famous artist used to get raw material for their masterpieces. Continue to hill surrounding LUCCA where we will visit a local farm house for typical lunch and wine tasting. You will get an explanation to the secrets of olive oil making and the production of other delicious local food products. Afternoon departure to Rome Arrival in the evening, overnight , dinner not included in Rome.
Day 5 – Thursday: ROME, NAPLES, POMPEII and SORRENTO
7 a.m. Departure to NAPLES by coach with multilingual escort where we will have a walking tour with a local guide to the historical center to Piazza del PLEBISCITO, Royal Palace, the art Nuevo shopping gallery of UMBERTO I, and the San Carlo Opera house, the oldest, still functioning opera house in the world. Continue to POMPEII, where first we visit a cameo factory followed by lunch at a typical restaurant, After lunch your guide will take you to the excavations of Pompeii a once flourishing Roman city covered by volcanic ash. It was destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvio in 79 B.C.but some of the buildings and frescos are almost intact. Drive to SORRENTO, the queen of the Sorrentine coast, a charming town surrounded Cyprus trees and lemon groves with fantastic views of the sea and the islands nearby. Dinner and overnight in Sorrento.
Day 6 – Friday: CAPRI, SORRENTO
Today we’ll take a ferry to the island of Capri, upon arrival at the main harbor we will visit the famous Blue Grotto (provided sea conditions allow it). Continue to visit of the Augustus Gardens. Will board mini buses and drive up the steep road to Anacapri where we will have lunch. Afternoon return to Marina Grande to board the return steamer, back to Sorrento for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 – Saturday: SORRENTO – AMALFI
After breakfast we depart through the Scenic Amalfi Coast winding road to Positano, one of the most well-known and scenic villages on the coast popularized in several movies. Arrival in Amafi, free time for your own activities of leisure or sightseeing. Dinner and overnight in Amalfi.
Day 8 – Sunday: AMALFI
Free day to discover the beauties of this wonderful coastal town and to explore the area on your own. You can take a local bus and visit Ravello top on the hill with its celebrated Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone frequented by celebrities during the centuries. You will enjoy the most splendid view anywhere. Or you can relax at the pool or and plunge into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. Dinner and overnight in Amalfi.
Day 9 – Monday : AMALFI – POMPEII and ROME
Morning at leisure for last minute souvenir shopping or strolling around the maze-like alleyways of the town. Departure at 3:30 p.m. to Pompeii by minibus where we will board a larger coach for the transfer back to Rome. Arrival in Rome around 9 p.m. End of services. Extra nights in Rome can be added.
