A lovely tour with visits to the famous art cities of Northern Italy and the spectacular coasts of the south. Spend some unforgettable time on the celebrated Amalfi Coast with plenty of time to marvel the scenery at your own leisure .
DAY 1 – ROME
Arrival at Rome on your own, make your own way to your hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay.
DAY 2 Monday. ROME – ASSISI – SIENA – FLORENCE
Pick up at the hotel at 7:15 a.m. and departure to by coach to the mystical town of Assisi, birthplace of St Francis. The city’s history goes back to pre-Roman times since it was founded by Umbrians around 1000 BC. You can walk around on your own the medieval town of legendary Saint Francis perched on the hill and still surrounded by ancient walls. Lunch on your own, then spend you free time in the town to visit the Basilica of Saint Francis with its early Renaissance masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue. We will continue driving to SIENA, the authentic medieval city that has not changed much during the centuries. Walk through the old town which is a designated World Heritage site to the famous central square with its beautiful late medieval Palazzo Publico. Proceed to FLORENCE. Dinner and overnight at your hotel in Florence.
DAY 3. Tuesday. FLORENCE
After a plentiful breakfast we will embark on a guided sightseeing tour of the city, also known to be the center of the Renaissance. We’ll walk to the beautiful Piazza del Duomo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Baptistery of St. John with the Gates of Paradise, and Santa Croce, the 13th century Franciscan Church with Cimabue’s famous crucifix and the Piazza Della Signoria and the Palazzo Vecchio. Lunch at the city center at a typical Tuscan restaurant. Afternoon is free for visiting museums and galleries or other individual activities. Possibility to add optional afternoon tours as well like the one to Pisa with the Piaza dei Miracoli and the Leaning Tower. Overnight at the hotel in Florence.
DAY 4 FLORENCE – BOLOGNA – PADUA – VENICE
Today we depart to Bologna, the city of Arcades. The town is famouse for its elegant city center and it boasts Europe’s oldest university dating back to 1088. Among its pupils were important historical personages like the poet Petrarch, Thomas Becket, Erasmus, Copernicus, popes and royalty. You can walk around the hundreds of porticos and shopping streets from the Piazza Malpighi to the Neptune square, King Renzo’s Palace, the Palazzo Podestà and the basilica of San Petronio, one of the biggest in the world. Being the capital of Emilia Romagna, Bologna is also famos for its tasty cuisine. In the afternoon we continue to Padua, where you will visit the famous Cathedral of St. Anthony, guarded by Donatello’s famous equestrian statue, the Gattamelata. Continue to VENICE, the most visited romantic city of Italy and the World. Check into the hotel for diner and overnight.
DAY 5 – VENICE
After breakfast, we will have or own water-taxi transfer to the center of Venice at Piazza San Marco, with “Skip the Line” tickets to visit the splendid St.Mark’s Basilica and, after this, check out the most iconic places of the city of Lagoons with the Dogi Palace, the legendary “Bridge of Sighs”. Spend the afternoon strolling among the many canals and hidden little bridges at your own delight. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 6 – VENICE – MONTEPULCIANO TUSCANY WINE REGION – ROME
After breakfast, departure to Tuscany, the most well known region of Italy for its rolling hills, ancient Roman roads, Medieval churches, arts and castles and its delicious wines. We will drive to the Val di Chiana region stopping at Montepulciano, a medieval hill town town rich in history and art known for its “Nobile” wine. Spend a leisurely afternoon exploring Montepulciano at your own pace, enjoying free wine tastings in the many wine shops and osterias and stroll around for picturesque views. In the evening, you will arrive in Rome to check into your hotel.
DAY 7 – ROME
After breakfast pick up at the hotel for the a tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel and St. Peters’s Basilica with our exclusive “Skip the Line” access! Your guide will lead you into the museums where you’ll visit one of the most important art collections of the world. Walk along the beautiful Galleries of Tapestries and Geographical Maps before admiring Raphael’s Rooms and the amazing Sistine Chapel. After this incredible masterpiece, you will be taken by a privileged door to St. Peters’s
Basilica: the biggest church in the world! The tour ends on St.Peter’s Square. Rest of the day at leisure or sign up for an optional afternoon tour. Overnight stay.
DAY 8 – ROME – NAPLES – POMPEII – SORRENTO
After breakfast, departure form the hotel at 7 a.m. and drive south of Rome driving through the region of Lazio. Arrival in Naples whjer we strt our explorations with a short panoramic tour up to Vomero hill form where we will have beautiful views over the Gulf of Naples as far down as Mount Vesuvius and the charming islands of Capri, Ischia. Later we drive back to the seashore where you will have time for a short walk around the marina, before heading to our restaurant for lunch at Herculanum, at a hotel with lush gardens. After lunch we visit Pompeii with extensive ruins of the town covered by lava dust in the violent eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD
You will get a first hand glance to the life of this prosperous city by walking on its roads, side walks visiting houses and “bars” of the time, admiring frescoes and mosaics and public building. After the visit, we drive along the Sorrentine Coast, arriving in Sorrento for dinner (dress code: jacket for men) and overnight.
DAY 9 SORRENTO
Breakfast and dinner at the hotel and day at leisure. Explore Sorrento on your own. You might want to take the local bus to the celebrated Amalfi coast nearby.
DAY 10 SORRENTO – CAPRI
After a buffet breakfast we depart at 9:15 a.m. to the island of Capri by ferry. After arrival on the island you will visit the BLUE GROTTO followed by lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon explore the scenic island on your own. Later we check into our hotel for tonight on the island. Dinner and overnight on Capri.
DAY 11 – CAPRI – ROME
After breakfast, spend a leisurely morning exploring Capri. Our suggestion is the Augustus Gardens or the Villa San Michelle. In the afternoon, you will reach the
mainland ready to depart for Rome for overnight.
DAY 12 – ROME
Enjoy one final breakfast. End of services.
