1st DAY/SATURDAY PALERMO
Independent arrival at Hotel Mercure EXCELSIOR PALERMO, prestigious historical Hotel located in one of the city center’ s main streets. Meet your guide in the evening and enjoy a welcome cocktail and briefing. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
2nd DAY/SUNDAY PALERMO – CEFALU – CATANIA
After a buffet breakfast, depart to Cefalu, a charming coastal town, a former fishing village which is also home to a breathtaking Norman Cathedral, famous for its Mosaic of Christ Pantocractor – a stunning mosaic that’s considered as one of the most important pieces of religious Byzantine artwork in Italy. Stroll through the city center and down main street to reach the Cathedral and the unique medieval wash-house built in the rock. Time at leisure to relax at a cafe of your choice for lunch on your own. Proceed to Catania, the town known for its original baroque style and for its streets built with black lava stone from mount Etna. Walking tour through Via Etnea, the Baroque street “Via Crociferi”, the Piazza Duomo with the Cathedral and the “Liotru” statue, symbol of the city, towards the roman Amphitheatre. Accommodation, dinner and overnight at the Hotel MERCURE CATANIA EXCELSIOR.
3rd DAY/MONDAY CATANIA – SYRACUSE – NOTO – CATANIA
After a buffet breakfast, depart to Syracuse to visit the most beautiful Greek colony of Sicily, former “New York city” of the ancient Greeks. Visit of the archaeological park “Neapolis”, including the famous Latomie of the Paradise, the Greek Theatre and the Dyonisios “Ear”. Visit the island of Ortigia, the small Baroque old city center of Syracuse where you can admire the Cathedral, which is built on the site of the Temple of Minerva, the legendary “Fontana Arethusa” and the Temple of Apollo. In the afternoon, proceed to Noto, one of the most beautiful cities in Sicily renowned for the harmony and unity of its Baroque style and today declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Back to Catania: dinner and overnight at the Catania Excelsior Hotel.
4th DAY/MONDAY CATANIA – MONTE ETNA – TAORMINA – CATANIA
After a buffet breakfast, weather conditions permitting, excursion to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Across fascinating landscape, we will reach a height of 2000 meters, where we will enjoy a fantastic panorama of the Ionic Sea. Lunch in a local restaurant on the slopes of Etna. Continue to Taormina called “the pearl of the Ionic Sea”, founded in 400 BC and beautifully located overlooking the sea and the peak of Mount Etna. Enjoy time at leisure to shop for handmade lace, coral jewels, ceramics, home-made sweets and preserves down “Corso Umberto” or simply walk through the tiny streets. Possibility to visit the fascinating Roman – Greek theater. Back to your hotel in Catania for dinner and overnight.
5th DAY /WEDNESDAY PIAZZA ARMERINA – AGRIGENTO
After a buffet breakfast, depart to Piazza Armerina and visit the worldwide known Villa Romana del Casale. It has the richest, largest and most complex collection of late Roman mosaics in Italy and it is a declared UNESCO World heritage site. Name of the original owners of the villa still being a mystery. Continue to Agrigento well known city due to it famous Valley of the Temples including the Temple of Juno, Concord, Heracles, Zeus, Castor & Pollux that represent the most beautiful example of the Greek Civilization in Sicily. Before visiting the temples lunch a a local restaurant, then join the guided tour around the Valley. Accommodation, dinner and overnight at Hotel DIOSCURI BAY PALACE in Agrigento.
6th DAY/THURSDAY AGRIGENTO – SELINUNTE with lunch in a farmhouse – ERICE – PALERMO
Buffet breakfast at the hotel, then departure to the Archaeological park of Selinunte, the largest in the Mediterranean area with the impressive Temples and Acropolis. Proceed to a local farmhouse (famous for olive oil production) where before lunch it will be possible to have a tasting of local typical products. Continue on to Erice, a medieval town full of myth, history and art which sits on top of Monte San Giuliano overlooking the city of Trapani and the Egadi Islands. After the visit, proceed to Palermo. Accommodation, dinner and overnight at Hotel Mercure Excelcior PALERMO.
7th DAY/FRIDAY (MONTE PELLEGRINO/CAPO MARKET OPTIONAL) PALERMO – MONREALE – PALERMO
After breakfast, morning at leisure to discover Palermo on your own join an optional excursion to Monte Pellegrino, the most famous mountain in Palermo, to arrive at the Shrine of Santa Rosalia, the Patron Saint of the city. From the viewpoint of the shrine enjoy a breathtaking panorama of the Conca d’Oro. End the morning with a walk to the discover of one of the most colorful historical markets of Palermo: “The Capo Market” immersed in an explosion of vegetables, and fruits. Back to your Hotel for lunch. In the early afternoon, depart to near town of Monreale to admire the Cathedral with its splendid 12th century golden Norman-Byzantine mosaics representing a complete cycle of the Old and New Testaments, and the Cloister of the Benedictines Abbey with its Moorish architecture. Continue with the visit of the Capital of Sicily, Palermo, one of the richest towns on the island for its varied history and art. See the Cathedral, the Palace of the Normans and its superb “Palatina” Chapel; enjoy a panoramic tour of the historical centre with the Opera House, the Pretoria Square, etc. Dinner and overnight at your Hotel.
8th DAY/SATURDAY PALERMO
After a buffet breakfast, end of the Tour. Optional transfers to Palermo airport.
