Day 1 Rome
Departure early morning on our air conditioned motor coach at 7:15 toward our first place of interest, Asissi, where you will have time to explore the small town surrounded by walls from the Middle Ages, at your own leisure. Do not forget to visit the Basilica of St. Francis, with its famous masterpieces by Giotto and Cimabue, and to have lunch (not included).
Continue on to Siena, a late Medieval town famous for it theater shaped main square and fantastic late Medieval city hall. It is the town of the Palio, an annual summertime horse race around the shell‐shaped town square, Piazza del Campo. Late afternoon you will continue on to Florence, where you will have dinner and overnight. D.
Day 2 Florence
After breakfast, you will spend the day venturing around beautiful Florence, the Italian center of art. The towns has ancient Etruscan and Roman history and was an important and flourishing stronghold during the the Middle Ages as a free town gaining its fame of artistic importance during the Renaissance. Because of its numerous monuments, churches, and buildings, Florence is known as the “cradle of Renaissance,” the crowning architectural jewel being the domed cathedral: Santa Maria del Fiore, more commonly referred to as The Duomo with its magnificent dome built by Filippo Brunelleschi. Cross a small piazza to see the Campanile tower (partly designed by Giotto) and the Baptistery, with its bronze doors that Michelangelo called the “Gates of Paradise.” In the heart of the city, you will see the Piazza della Signoria, Palazzo della Signoria (also known as Palazzo Vecchio), and the Santa Croce basilica. Lunch at a typical Tuscan style restaurant. Spend the afternoon strolling the cobblestone streets of Florence on your own or take a short trip to Pisa (Optional), one of the four main historical Marine Republics of Italy. There, you will tour the Square of Miracles, which houses the Duomo, the Leaning Tower, and the Baptistry. Overnight stay in Florence. B.L.
Day 3 Florence Bologna Padova Venice
Depart for Bologna after breakfast. Bologna, the town of one of the oldest universities in Europe founded in the 11th century. Known for its forward thinking, the city is also well-known for its many arcades making walking in the protective shades pleasurable even during the height of the summer. You will wander through the city’s 38 kilometers of elegant arcades for which Bologna is famous. From Piazza Malpighi, we will walk to Piazza del Nettuno and Piazza Maggiore (Neptune Square and Major Square) in the heart of the city, where you will find Neptune Fountain; King Renzo Palace; Podestà Palace; and the basilica of San Petronio, one of the biggest in the world. in the afternoon, continue toward Padova, with its original Sant’Antonio Basilica. Later, you will arrive in Venice, world‐renowned for its classic gondola boats and its elegant, refined art. Check in to your hotel and enjoy your first Venetian dinner and overnight stay. B.D.
Day 4 Venice
After breakfast board a private water bus to enjoy an outstanding cruise through the lagoons of Venice arriving at St Mark’s square where we will visit the be the exotic cathedral and the famed Dodge’s Palace, symbol of Venetian glory. Admire with an exterior visit of the byzantine-style cathedral, the Dodge’s, a symbol of the glory and authority of Venice as it housed the seat of the government and the court of justice and the legendary Bridge of Sigh. Afternoon free to explore the canals and palaces or take an optional boat tours to Murano, famous for its ancient art of glass blowing which is is still carried on in the town, thanks to a few skilled masters. DAY 5 – VENICE – VERONA – SIRMIONE – COMO
After breakfast departure heading to the famous city of Verona: the town
of Romeo and Juliet. A walk through the Renaissance town with its painted facades, narrow streets will allow you to get a glimpse into Verona’s past, its Roman treasures including the world-famous Arena famed for its summer operatic performances. Walk by its medieval churches and magnificent renaissance palaces along pink marble side walks. Later we continue driving to Sirmione, one of the most charming places of Italy on the shores of scenic Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy. Sok up the ancient ambiance among lemon trees, oleanders and magnolias and see Sirmione cape, the castle and the ruins. In the afternoon, we continue to Como on the shores of an other famous Italian Lake, Lake Como. Free time to visit the town of Como with its Medieval streets bell tower and inviting vistas. Check-in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight at Como.
Day 6 COMO- MILAN
Breakfast, Breakfast and departure to Milan, end of the tour at the central railway station. Check out this Northern Italy tour combined with South Italy.
